A late offer from another university creates several small deadlines at once. Deal with them in order: secure the new place, leave the old one correctly and make sure CSN's records match what the universities have on file.
One of August's questions in Sweden concerned changing universities just before registration and getting student funding and tuition-fee status right. Read the Reddit discussion from August 2026.
1. Read the new university's offer first
Check the response deadline, registration period, term start date, required documents and whether you need to do anything both on Antagning.se and in the university's own system. Save the confirmation when you accept or register.
If the offer came directly from a department or through a late application, the steps may differ. Ask the admissions office or student services about anything unclear before giving up your old place.
2. Withdraw in the right place
According to Antagning.se, after the response deadline you should withdraw through its website if you have not registered. If you have already registered, contact the university or college directly.
Save this confirmation too. Withdrawing frees the place for someone else and reduces the risk of remaining active at two institutions.
3. Update CSN within a week
CSN's current guidance says that you must report a change of course or institution within a week because it can affect your entitlement to student support. For student funding, use the Change application option in your online account. Read CSN's page about changing course or institution and check that the period, study load, credits and institution are correct.
Do not let payments continue on the basis of old information. If the change means you receive too much, you may have to repay it.
4. Check registration separately
Admission and registration are two different steps. You can lose the new place if you miss the registration period, even if you accepted it. Log in to the new institution's student portal and check both course registration and orientation information.
5. If tuition fees or EU status are unclear
Do not guess based on your citizenship or what your previous university did. Contact the new university's admissions or fees officer and ask which documents they need and by when. The institution can confirm how your status will be handled for that particular admission.
6. Move the practical details over
- Student account and email.
- Learning platform and course materials.
- Timetable and orientation.
- Housing, commuting and insurance.
- Credit transfer for previous studies, if relevant.
Any credit transfer may affect your study load and student funding. Tell CSN if your credits or study period change.
A checklist before you close the matter
- Your new place is confirmed and you have saved the registration date.
- You have withdrawn from your old place correctly.
- Your CSN application shows the right university, programme, period and study load.
- The new institution has confirmed any tuition-fee status in writing.
- You can log in to the new university's systems.
This order reduces the risk of losing a place or receiving incorrect student funding. If two messages contradict each other, pause and call the right administrator before clicking further.
